"My name is Jerry Miller. I am 43 years old and my new life began in March of 2011. I describe it as my new life because I decided that I not only wanted to lose weight I wanted to be healthy. It was time for a complete lifestyle change. I was overweight, sleeping poorly, and just had an overall lack of energy. I started with research into diet and exercise, reading everything I could find on the subjects. I settled on a diet of whole foods, heavy on fresh vegetables and fruits. It turns out, mom was right. Eat your vegetables. For exercise, I started slowly. For me, walking was the perfect fit. With every walk, I would try to increase the difficulty. I would increase the distance, speed, add stairs etc. Eventually, I was going on long hikes. I added cycling to my exercise routine and was making progress. After losing some weight in this manner, I began to feel better, had more energy, and was even sleeping better. I was hooked. I was ready to take my training up a notch and was pleased to learn that there was a wellness center opening near me. It was perfect timing for me. I went to the presale and talked to Spike. He was very enthusiastic and knowledgeable. From his description of the facility and his plans I knew it would be a good fit for me. I'm glad I signed up. The staff is great. They are always friendly and knowledgeable. I wish Spike fitness had been available to me from the beginning. I think it would have been a lot easier if I didn't have to do it alone. So far, I have lost 104 pounds and my blood work was excellent from my last physical. I am feeling great and looking forward to continuing my journey at Spikes Fitness. If I can do it, you can too. I know people say it all the time, that's because it's true. Best of luck to you on your personal journey to fitness."
Here is their story from Michelle:
"Pete and I used to enjoy going to the gym when we lived in NC. It was a nightly routine for us, until we moved to Pataskala where there was no gym. When SpikeFitness opened I joined right away, happy to be in the gym routine again. Pete took a little more convincing. For me the gym is a social time where I can be with people I like and have a good time (and of course get a workout). For one hour I don't have to be a Mom, I can be me working to make myself better. Originally I was working out in the main gym with my friend and neighbor; then we started trying the group fitness classes. Once we started Zumba we were hooked; then hip-hop came along and we were totally hooked!
Pete joined the gym in November of 2012. He really started working out in January 2013 after the holidays were over. Pete is a cardio guy so you can find him on the stair mill or the elliptical. I can't stand those machines! He will do an hour of cardio 4-5 times a week. Overall Pete has lost 40 pounds! A little exercise and watching what you eat can make all the difference!
I have lost 20 pounds doing hip-hop and running. I try to alternate my exercise routines so I don't get bored but who can get bored with hip-hop! I prefer to run outside but during the winter the treadmill is a good second choice and then I can lift some weights. Thanks to SpikeFitness for getting us moving again and more importantly, healthier!"
I started working out with Spike about 6 months ago. For many years I have worked out. I have belonged to gyms, ran a marathon, triathlon and 5k's, swam laps and did various cardio classes. I don't have a problem with motivation to work out. However, despite working out, I have always been in a battle with my weight. Two things were missing from my fitness routine: proper weight training and proper nutrition. For the first time in 25 years, I have the right mix of exercise and nutrition to lose weight, thanks to Spike Fitness. The thing about the Spikes Team is that the entire team "gets" fitness. They don't just preach it, they exhibit and model it. Spike knows what it takes to reshape your body. For the first few months under Spike's guidance my routine was weight lifting 3x/week and cardio 3-5x/week. About 2 months in, Spike suggested I kick it up a notch and add two nights of spinning class.
About that same time I really got serious with Angie's nutrition plan and the weight started coming off. It just takes the right plan to make it happen. Sometimes just doing your own thing doesn't work. I am proof of that.... 25 years of doing my own thing, working hard, but working hard with the wrong mix of exercises. I am so thankful that Spike Fitness opened up in the Pataskala community. The entire team at Spikes cares about fitness, cares about members' success and celebrates every victory with us. Thanks to the entire team for the support, guidance and education. It has changed my body (hopefully for life!)
"Just a few weeks before my 40 birthday I knew I had to make a change. It was more than just being out of shape; I tired easily, was out of breath after climbing a couple flights of stairs and worried about health problems that run in my family like high blood pressure and diabetes.
I stopped by Spike Fitness and not only joined but signed up for personal training because I knew I needed more than just a membership to a gym. It has been a wonderful journey.
Angie has taught me so much about nutrition and made it simple. I’ve been a vegetarian for over 15 years and Angie incorporated my own personal dietary needs and my likes and dislikes into an awesome meal plan. She taught me about portion control, to pick sugar free options rather than always going for the fat free option, and to eat every 3 to 4 hours with healthy snacks.
Training with Spike has made such a difference. He has pushed me to work harder than I thought I could and given me the confidence to try different equipment in the gym. His knowledge, patience, and encouragement have made working out fun and the results are awesome!"
" I am down 30 lbs., 5 inches on my waist, 4" in my hips and 5% body fat ! I have lost 3 sizes and I have more energy now than I have in years!"
"The staff at Spike’s is wonderful!! They are caring and celebrate every pound lost and milestone achieved. Debbie’s own story of fitness is such an encouraging one and she has been a wonderful cheerleader.
I am looking forward to 2013 and continued health and fitness at Spike Fitness!"
"My name is Jeff Paxton and I am forty-eight years old. My whole life I've had a weight problem. It is something I still struggle with on a daily basis. I got sick this past December and had to go to the doctor. When I got weighed I couldn't believe it said three hundred and twenty-five pounds. That is the most I have ever weighed in my life. No wonder I felt tired and exhausted all the time. I had hypertension, high cholesterol, and sleep apnea. I knew I was heading toward a stroke, diabetes or worse. My job as a bus operator also factored in my decision to start some sort of exercise program. Sitting down in a seat for eight hours a day and then coming home and hitting the couch was slowly killing me
I knew there was a new gym that had opened up in the Kroger center called Spike Fitness. I got the tour by Angie the nutritionist and went home to tell my wife about the place. It was not so much if we could afford to join, but could we afford not to join. My wife Lisa and I joined around the middle of January 2012. I signed up to work with Angie on my nutritional plan around that same time. She has made a giant difference in the way I approach what I eat today, along with helping me choose foods that actually fueled my workouts. Choosing foods that are high in protein, fruits and vegetables has enabled me to lose weight and not feel hungry all the time. My biggest downfall was fast food of all kinds. Angie showed me that a McDonald's Sweet Tea was actually the Devil. The three months we worked together she could not have been any more supportive and helpful. Even when I gained weight one week and needed talked off the ledge, she was nothing but supportive. I have nothing but great things to say about the rest of the staff at Spike's also. Everyone has been very supportive and encouraging. The equipment at Spike's is top shelf."
"Spike's has a great mix of free weights, machines and cardio equipment. I look to eventually train with Spike in the near future. I often laugh when I see or hear about a pill that you can take to lose weight, if it was only that easy! Since the first of December I have lost fifty-one pounds and I feel like a new person. My energy has gone through the roof. I'm not where I want to be weight wise yet, but I'm closer than I was three months ago. With the support of my wife Lisa and the awesome team of people at SpikeFitness, I feel confident that I can reach my goals. Do yourself a favor and start slow, never give up, and don't be afraid to let the qualified people at Spike Fitness help you achieve your fitness goals."
Following a heart attack in 2004, Mike Grayson spent the next five years in cardiac rehabilitation until herniated discs in his neck and lower back prevented him from exercising. Now, following successful surgeries to repair both conditions, he is back in the gym in an effort to lose the weight he put back on during the “pain in the neck” years and maintain his heart health.
After just six weeks at Spike Fitness, Mike has lost 12 pounds. He trains twice a week with Spike and is committed to being in the gym for cardio work another three mornings each week. Mike is a resident of Pataskala, a graphic designer and the owner of Sir Speedy Printing in Heath.
Kyra decided to change her life and at 33 pounds lost, she is doing a great job! While training with Spike and with the guidance of Angie Pasquinelli Yates, dietician, Kyra is proof of what hard work can do. We are proud of you and we look forward to working with you in 2013!
Special Shout out to Katie Vance on her 20 lb weight loss !!!! Katie and her mom Terri joined SpikeFitness together. Their goal was to learn to eat healthier through working with Angie our dietitian and to lose weight and tone by personal training with Spike! They accomplished just that with a combined weight loss of 30 pounds total! You are adorable inside and out and you look amazing !!!
"This is me before Spike Fitness"
"I have lost a total of 24 pounds since December 2011. In addition to the weight loss, I have managed to lose 3.25" in my waist, 2.75" in the hips and a total of 5.7% body fat!!!! Not to mention I have dropped 3 sizes!
FUEL and ENERGY (replaced diet and exercise) are a part of my mental strategy for taking this step towards better health. I am half way to my goal!
"This is me now! On the road to a better, healthier life and I feel great!
I can't express enough gratitude and appreciation for the attention to detailed personal training and nutritional education I am receiving. Thank you!"
"I decided to train to get in shape and it has been as good as working out can be. Spike has been great at pushing more than I could push myself and he knows how to get the most he can get out of someone without breaking them down. Debbie has made the gym such a friendly place to work out at and the entire staff is very supportive. I have lost over 40 pounds so far and plan on losing another 50. It's like the biggest loser but you don't have to leave your family! Thanks for everything, Glenn"
"Hello, I am Diane Michel age 49. I joined Spike Fitness back in the pre sign up days last summer and began coming to the gym in December when they opened, hungry for weight loss and better overall health. By March I had lost about 5 lbs. but wasn’t really seeing the results I wanted to. One day on a whim, I talked with Angie about the nutrition and meal plan. I thought I knew quite a bit about nutrition and I did. Angie taught me so much more. I learned so much about portion control, weigh/ measure. I learned how to read nutritional labels and apply their values. The meal plan was easy to follow and did not leave me feeling hungry or deprived. True, it takes more time to cook and prepare fresh meals rather than cracking a can open (sodium!!) or buying prepared frozen meals (fat and sodium!) or slapping a lunchmeat (fat and sodium) sandwich together but is oh so worth it in the long run. I have always had a love of the salt shaker and out the window it went (not really, but I no longer need or use it). Shortly after talking with Angie, I met with Steve to begin personal training two days per week. Training with Steve has been awesome. I never would have imagined that I am capable of doing all that I am doing. Never! Needless to say, it was only a few short weeks into it that I saw the pounds melting away and the muscle tone definition appearing. I really had no idea it would feel this great. Steve and Angie have been extremely encouraging and inspirational. The entire staff has been wonderful and I enjoy the gym “family” tremendously. Steve, Angie, Spike and Debbie, Doc, Cindy, Amy and Diane. Much encouragement has come from my own family. Joe has supported me 110% along with my daughter Katelyn and son Luke. Several co-gym members have complimented me and I can’t even begin to say thanks and tell you how motivational that is. I have energy that I didn’t have before. I feel younger. I feel so much better! Even osteoarthritis in the knee feels better and stronger thru exercise. This has become a way of life for me. I have gone from a size 14 to size 6. I am 5’ 8” , weight loss as of Aug 2012 is 36 lbs. Beginning weight was 184, I am now 148. Body fat is down 9.3%, 6.5 inches off the waist, 4.75 inches off the hips, 6 points down on the BMI (28.1 to 22.5). I love the new ME!"
UPDATE - AS OF JANUARY 2013 Diane was voted 2012's biggest "Loser" and has lost additional weight, inches and body fat!
"Debbie and Spike -
I would love to tell the world how much I appreciate what you are doing to help me achieve my goals. The most disliked words in my vocabulary were "DIET and EXERCISE"! Until I went to the doctor in December 2011 and was hit with the fact that I now weighed more than when I was pregnant with either of my children! I tried to blame my thyroid, a hysterectomy and the fact that my body was not producing much in the way of hormones anymore. Plus, I am 49 years old and my metabolism was...NOT! I refused to believe that it was diet and exercise. REFUSED!
January 1, 2012 was a new beginning for me. I began to really watch my food intake and ate mostly vegetarian meals. I did pretty well. However, I realized I needed more. On February 16, 2012, I walked into Spike Fitness and Wellness. I was impressed at the cleanliness of it and the convenience to my home. I met Spike and Debbie. I brought my husband, Bob in the next day and that week we both signed up.
I told Spike about my goal to lose this awful weight I had succumbed to. I told him how much I was looking to lose and the time frame I wanted to lose it in. When he told me that was realistic and he could help me, I trusted him and signed up for personal training 3 times per week. I also took advantage of the registered dietitian they have, Angie.
I must say, I AM DOING IT!!! I have an excellent team of supporters and not just my family. This facility and every person employed at Spike Fitness makes me feel that my health is their first priority and they want to see me succeed. They have given me the proper tools and guidance to do this. I have to do the work but they are there for me to encourage me and support me. Angie works with me on the nutrition by giving me meal plans that are so simple and easy to prepare for my whole family.
Spike has really taken his time with me to explain the muscle groups we are targeting and the exercise for that particular group and why we are doing these particular exercises. I LOVE, LOVE, LOVE weight training. I love the cardio but most of all I LOVE THE RESULTS. My family has noticed me "shrinking" and so have my co-workers.
Today is March 11, 2012. Since I joined Spike Fitness 4 weeks ago, I have LOST: 8lbs; 2" in my hips; 2.5" in my waist and best of all 1% body fat!!!
In addition to my 8 pound weight loss from joining Spike Fitness, I have also lost an additional 7 pounds from my last doctor appointment just by watching what I ate prior to working with Angie. NOW, the most loved words in my vocabulary are DIET and EXERCISE! I never thought I would say that. My total weight loss since December 2011 is 15 pounds.....and counting!
My husband and I are walking in our first ever Mini Marathon (13miles) on May 5, 2012! I am confident we will complete it in good time.
Thanks to everyone at Spike Fitness for your support, knowledge, caring attitude and friendship. You have truly changed my life!"
"Before joining Spike Fitness I was very concerned about my health. I am a Type II Diabetic and was overweight. I was concerned about becoming insulin dependent. My eating habits were not healthy. I am on blood pressure medicine and my cholesterol levels are above normal. I have lost two brother due to health issues and both my parents past away at young ages. Family history is a big concern to me.
Since joining Spike Fitness four weeks ago, I have lost 10 pounds, my diet and eating habits have improved and my blood sugar levels have greatly improved. I feel more energetic and less tired. I have been working out 5-6 day per week and it has become a "habit" or lifestyle now. My goal is to be off diabetic medication and possibly blood pressure medicine as well.
The personal training that I receive at SpikeFitness is exactly what I needed. They help me set goals, progress in my exercise routine and most importantly - monitor my workouts. While I am receiving training, Spike stays with me at all times, providing feedback and encouragement. The nutritionist, Angie has helped me put together a healthy eating plan (not a diet)!"

"My husband and I joined Spike Fitness 3 months ago. In that time I have dropped 3 sizes. Our lives are busy like everyone else's and I did not believe I could fit another thing into our schedule but joining has been the best decision and gift my husband and I have given each other. I was Spike Fitness's worst nightmare, late 40's, very obese for 25 years, stress eater, and knew nothing about working out. The Spike Fitness staff is so supportive and knowledgeable. Angie, the nutritionist, has changed how my husband and I eat, not just a diet like those premade diet meals but something we can really incorporate in our daily lives from here on out as we are learning what to eat and when, plus eating more! I work with Spike and I have learned so much about muscles and how to work out. I totally feel the burn and actually smile and laugh about it throughout the day (crazy I know). Dr. Jenkins is also part of the Spike Fitness family and has assisted with strengthening my knees which keeps me moving. When I first started I could not walk 30 minutes at a 0% incline due to the years of wearing high heels (told you I was a mess) and yet in 3 months I can do more than an hour. Before joining, my blood pressure was extremely high and I took 2 different medications to control it. Now I don't need to take medication which is incredible. My husband, David, has been so supportive and such an inspiration in this journey as well. I still have a long way to go but want to acknowledge and thank everyone at Spike Fitness and my husband, David for their encouragement and support. Deb, I truly want to thank you for all your support. I enjoy the Spike Fitness Family! Thank you!"
"After reading the book "Younger Next Year" we realized the importance of daily exercise, including weight training, to reduce the effects of aging on our bodies. We have a basement full of fitness equipment but didn't really know how to use it effectively so when Spike Fitness opened close to our home we joined. We decided to do personal training in order to get the maximum benefit out of our time at the gym and to help keep us on a regular workout schedule. In the 6 weeks we have been training we have not really repeated the same movements, since Spike knows many different ways to work the same muscle group. He keeps it interesting and we can feel the results - especially after "leg night" (ouch). After being concerned about getting workouts into our schedule, we are now at the gym 5 days per week, including a toning class on Mondays and even trying Couples Zumba, a fun change in our routine! We also found it beneficial to discuss our meal planning with Angie, the Registered Dietician. We recommend personal training! It's a great way to jump start your fitness program, stay motivated and get results!"
"I joined Spike Fitness after meeting Spike and Debbie and seeing their commitment to not just opening another gym but to have a fitness and wellness center that would change peoples' lives. I had worked out at home with some success but knew there could be more. I had tried other gyms in the past but there was definitely no "personal" in personal trainer. After signing up to train with Spike I really found out what a personal trainer is supposed to be. He is always encouraging and pushes you to be your best. The rest of the staff has his same attitude and encourages you when you walk through the door. Since I started training 3 months ago I have lost 12 pounds and feel stronger than I have for a long time. My cholesterol is lower than it has ever been and I feel great! Angie has been a big part of this with the meal plans and encouragement she gives. The equipment in the gym is the best I have ever seen or used and Spike knows how to use it to get the most out of the workouts he plans for me. I believe that Spike and Debbie have accomplished just what they set out to do and I thank them for the changes in my life."

Spikey J! this man knows what hes doing. I met spike approximately 3 years ago at Powershake gym, Spike saw potential in me and took me under his wing. The last 3 years Spike has transformed my body from an out of shape powerlifter/football player to a bodybuilder, and with his help I will be on stage for the Mike Francois Classic May 2010 Thanks Spike, without your hard work and dedication to helping others change their lifestyles I would not be in the shape I am in today. The sky is the limit with Spike, I cant wait to see where I am in 3 more years with him!!
- Matt Nickley Oct 2009

- Rosie Mathews dec 2009
I just wanted to thank you so much for allowing me to work out with you bright and early last week! I'm not so much of a morning person as my mom (Rosie), but I had a great time with you! If I were still in Ohio, I would definately be another person on your list, and yes, at 5:00 a.m.
I also want to let you know that I am really happy that you and Spike have come into my mom's life. She is so happy right now with everything and she talks about you two all the time. You have done so much for her in this past month, helping her and inpiring her. I really appreciate you. She is the best mom a girl could have and seeing her this happy really touches my heart. I feel better knowing that she has two great people in her life.
Also, could you please help her find a man?? LOL! Add that too her Client of the Month and say that she is single! :)
Well, thank you again for everything. Happy New Year and I hope to see you again one day!
- Kristie (Rosie's daughter) December 2009
"Debbie, I just wanted to take the time to thank you for your friendship and support. You have no idea how motivational you are to me. I love going in there and seeing your smiling face. I know my hard work will pay off and I am looking forward to a healthier me! :)" - Jen
My name is Deannia. I'm a National Figure Competitor from Columbus, Ohio and a past workout partner of Spike's. Spike & I used to train at the World Gym on the east side of Columbus, Ohio. We personal trained with each other roughly about 2 1/2 years. Spike & I helped one another get ready for NPC shows. We trained hard and also had fun doing it together as a team to reach our goals. Even though Spike and I were training partners we were best friends. After moving out here in San Diego, California we still keep in touch. Spike spoke to me about his new career opportunity. I have to say Spike is the right individual to be in this field. Spike is a man of knowledge and experience. I wish him and Debbie the best on a new journey to change others life for the best.
